Glass to Sand
a free verse poem
I want to take this glass
And crush it back to sand
But it only shatters
Leaving sharp shards
That dig into the arches of my feet
Like deep paper cuts
That won't heal
If they were sand
I would feel the soft blanket
Wrapping between my toes
I’d build castles on the beach
And whole kingdoms made from
Rock and stick people
I could bottle the sand
And bring it to the glassblower
Who could heat and blow
and shape the sand
Into a thing of beauty
A new fragile thing
For me to set on my mantle
And I would be more careful this time
for another poetic trip to the beach try
